Names you may know… authors who started out as starlighters
Khaled Hosseini (The Kite Runner, A Thousand Splendid Suns), who wrote The Kite Runner between 4-6am every day before going to his full-time job as a medical doctor.
Terry McMillan (Waiting to Exhale, How Stella Got her Grove Back, Getting to Happy and more), who wrote her novels by getting up at 5am before waking her son for breakfast and working a full-time job as a single mother. Her website is superb for aspiring writers.
Jodi Picoult (My Sister’s Keeper, Sing you Home, Lone Wolf and more), who wrote her first novel Songs of the Humpback Whales while pregnant, then juggled child care with writing for years (often writing parts of novels in 20-minute blocks). Jodi has published 18 novels and counting…See her FAQ for great insights on process and inspiration.
More authors to come as I discover them.

I’d love to hear from you. Set your alarm clock for dawn and add your name to the Honor Roll. That’s what it might take to get your first draft done.
